I have worked with many children over the years that have been SEN identified that are actually slow learners. The curriculum demands a lot from these children and their teachers. So I am trying to create “Active Learning Sheets” that can be used by all abilities to encourage independence. These will give plenty of practice of key skills as well as learning the key elements of the curriculum without having to take time out of the classroom. I try to use real life examples for imagery.

How our ear works

(0)
A worksheet to describe what sound is to Keystage 1 children. It allows for children with SEN to play an active part in recording as well as being able to be adapted for more able children.

Plants - learn to spell and label

(0)
This activity is intended to allow children to correctly spell when labelling a plant. Allowing children to label by sounding can file the wrong spelling in their brain and they never break out of the bad habit.

Science KS1 - Observing changes in the seasons

KS1 Science – Observing changes in the seasons These worksheets are intended to be used to generate conversation about the changes in the seasons. There is an odd one out and also pictures that could be a starting point for ideas such as “reasons for wearing sunscreen”, “Why do combine harvesters reap the crops in Summer?”, etc.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

(0)
Start with “The hungry Caterpillar” story. This worksheet allows children to copy out correct spellings (children need to spell these correctly from the start so as not to form bad habits). Another sheet gives extra practice for children or encourages others to look at other British butterflies. The first shows the life cycle of a “Peacock Butterfly”, one that children can see in the British Garden. I have included different butterflies in another sheet attached. The worksheet requires them to add arrows to show what a life cycle means (the first one having been done for them) and to copy the correct spelling underneath the pictures.

Powerpoint Experiment for "What is Sound?"

This Powerpoint has been created with three activity sheets that are differentiated and that will take children aged 5-7 through the principal of sound by asking them to demonstrate how to stop sound from travelling to our ears.

Spelling words for animal groups KS1

(0)
An easy to copy spelling check list that accompanies KS1 Science. So often children are expected to try to spell these words which then stick wrongly in their memories. They need to be given the words to copy for later accuracy.

Materials KS1

(0)
Materials – KS1 I have produced this so that children can become familiar with the descriptive words available to them that they need to be able to read and spell for the National Curriculum Science Programme. The format for each material stays the same to aid them with the task. The chosen items have the correct words written underneath them to encourage correct spelling and can be written over for practising the spellings. The items are chosen to generate conversation about how they are made and what properties this describes, therefore.
